The Market Retreat is an apartment on the Albert Cuypstraat, the biggest daily market street in Amsterdam. The property is located in the Oud Zuid district of Amsterdam with lots of restaurants, cafes and small independent shops. It is situated within walking distance from the Museumplein, with the Rijksmuseum,van Goghmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam. Heineken Experience and Carre Theatre are both 800 metres from this property.

The apartment is decorated with modern art. It consists of a spacious room with a small balcony overlooking the market. The room features a double bed, a desk and a flat screen TV. Delighful.
Our trip was just one of those lovely trips where you have a great host. lovely accommodation. great location and it’s all just so charming. we did not realise we were located above such a popular market and the market was lovely to walk through. It was only on a wine and cheese canal cruise the guide told us to visit a great market and realised we were living on the street. we used the supermarket. The hummus stand forgotten it’s name. bought tulips. lovely meals from the vendors. The bed was so comfortable. Clean room. I love being in a room where you have ‘air’ plentiful from the large window/door to balcony. Great recommendations from host David. we already had one of the places on our list so it was nice to know a local recommended too. Greenwoods for breakfast and visited Coffee & Coconuts for coffee and cake. The market shop owners would greet us as we entered/left the building such a friendly experience for a little hello from shops either side if people saw you. The stairs wow. added to the Dutch charm worth the climb ha! I fell in love with Amsterdam. The Dutch just ooze cool. David you were a delightful to deal with. your energy is refreshing and it was a pleasure to deal with you. prompt check in and out. The message you sent the 2nd day to check if we were ok was a lovely touch. We have travelled the world and once your checked in not many hosts tend to check in via messages if they are not on site themselves. I would definitely stay here.
There is nothing that spoilt our trip we had a fault less stay in this lovely room however if I was to be particular I would need to mention market noise however I am a light sleeper and love my sleep. I did hear the market set up each morning but it didn’t spoil my morning. I still managed to sleep in. It didn’t last long. I would endure the market set up for the overall accommodation. The door once closed blocks out the general noise of the market. Just wonderful I am so glad I experienced Amsterdam in sunshine. during the week to experience it’s true culture before the weekend people arrived. The city is bright, leafy, trendy cafes. Gorgeous food. So many people asked if we were enjoying our time in the city so friendly!!! 11/10.
